I noticed a couple of typo's here so I corrected them for you Grissom
The only reasons that one is disfellowshipped is for one not having a Christian Watchtower attitude or heart.
It is not for or from a particular sin. But it is from one's reaction to that sin such as non-repentance what the Society has deemed sin, smoking, thinking, not accepting everthing they say as from the mouth of God.

when i started to have serious doubts about witnessdom a few years ago i embarked on an investigation which catapulted me into, what i have come to call, the "ecstasy of insight" and the "agony of doubt.
" i remember going to an out-of-the-way library one morning to read crisis of conscience.
When I first left I would get up early in the morning before my wife did and read everything I could on the Watchtower Society. I had already make it clear to everyone that I was out but didn't want to upset my wife so I wouldn't look at that type of material while she was around. I then expanded to reading anything else that struck my fancy. I felt like a kid in a candy shop being able to read anything on any subject without having to worry about whether it was proper for me to do so.
I read somewhere that prisoners of war think mostly of food that is why many of them binge on food and get fat once they have been release. I think many witnesses feel intellectually starved so once they get out they tend to binge on knowledge.
I think back with fond memories of my escape. I don't t think I will ever get the high I felt over leaving the Watchtower again. To do so I would have to get involve in something just as oppressive and then escape from it. Tooooo much trouble!

I wasn't I sent them a letter of resignation and told them I would take them to court if they tried to df me.

Keep in mind that Jehovah's Witnesses are very good a pointing out what is bad about the government but their solution is a fairytale. At the time you are speaking of (probably the mid 80's) the witnesses had no involvement in politics at all, they weren't allowed to vote. They were happy to sit back and let everyone else make the decision about the country yet complain bitterly if thing weren't being done to their liking.
Remember that when the witnesses in Germany were walked over by Hitler and put in camps none of their JW bothers and sisters made any effort to rescue them. Thank God some Atheists, Christians, Jews in the US, Canadian, and British military came to bail them out or they would still be sitting there along with all the jdubs in the rest of the world under Hitlers control. Witnesses may sound like they make a lot of sense on some issues, that is usually the hook that gets someone involved with them but if you look at the overall picture they really haven't a clue.

one of my best friends lives in the same building as this single woman in the congregation i used to attend.

Poor Pam is definately a little wack in the head from all the wt indoctrination she has suffered over the years and if she is a closet lesbo we can only imagine what the poor girl is going through. On the other had she may be quite clever. She may have just taken care of her magazine placements for the next month. Some witnesses get pretty crafty at ways to get rid of magazines and count time.

here's a nice little side benefit of being raised a jw then leaving; having to search the obituaries of the local paper once a month hoping that your dad's name does not turn up.
it's doubtful that any of my "family" would even let me know, so, i know it's morbid, but i look in the local paper each month and hope that i don't see his name.... j
I feel bad for all you but I'm glad you post. People who are getting involved with the Watchtower only get the love bombing at the KH as they are getting sucked in.. They need to know the dark side of this religion. Post like yours could help someone think twice about joining and avoid winding up in the same postion you are in.
